North Cariboo Aboriginal Family Program Society

Mandate/Mission

The North Cariboo Aboriginal Family Program Society is a non- profit society and is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors representative from each of the Aboriginal communities of the North Cariboo.
The society works to promote the advancement and well-being of the children, youth and families of the North Cariboo’s Aboriginal communities and advocates for and provides programs, services and resources which contribute to community development and capacity building.

Procedure:Potential clients contact a family support worker for assistance, usually through their own community. However, clients may also be referred through other communities or agencies or may contact the Society directly.

Services

  • Family Support Workers: Each Aboriginal “community”:- Nazko Band, Klusklus Band, Red Bluff Band, Quesnel Tillicum Society, Carrier Chilcotin Tribal Council, North Cariboo Metis Society - employs a Family Support Worker who works with members of that community and others as required.
  • Aboriginal Family Centre: Early Childhood Education parent programs, cultural programs
GOALS:
  • to take community responsibility for Aboriginal child welfare as an alternative to BC Ministry for Children and Families care
  • to prevent child abuse and neglect as an alternative to child apprehension
  • to develop an accord of standards and collective responsibility for the health and growth of all children and families within each community
  • to provide family dispute resolution processes as an alternative to Family Court
